Object Toolbar Explained

The object toolbar allows you to do quick edits directly on the object.  This is an efficient way to have access to the most used tools during the page building process.  The object toolbar will change depending on the type of object that you click on.  An example of this would be; when clicking on an image vs. clicking on text as seen in Figure 1, you will notice that one additional icon is added to the text object.  All objects that are placed on the page will have their own set of icons to interact with that object.  These objects are as follows:

B1 - arrange up

The up icon will allow you to take an object and move it to the top of other objects by shifting the layer above another.

B2 - arranged down

This is the exact opposite of the arrange up, as this will move the object to the back.  Try experimenting with layers when inserting multiple images on the page.  This allows you to build your web pages quickly by sorting the stacking of objects on the page.

B3 - edit object

The edit object icon will open up the text editor allowing you to make changes to any text inserted on the page.  The text editor works exactly like a word processing application.  You'll also notice that the image in Figure 1 does not have the edit icon, as the image cannot be edited.

TIP: the edit icon will allow you to open the text editor, however you can also edit in line by double clicking into the text.  This will allow you to make even quicker edits to content vs. opening up the separate text editor window.  You will also notice that once you have finished your text, you will see a save icon on the top right hand corner of the object.

B4 - lock/unlock

This icon will allow you to lock the object in place.  This is extremely helpful especially when dealing with several objects on the page.  It's very convenient when you can lock an object so it cannot move, but can still be edited.  There are two states for this icon, one in green, signifying unlocked and one in red signifying locked.  To lock and unlock an object, simply click the icon.

B5 - delete

This icon will delete the object altogether.

B6 - scaling

You'll notice that around all objects there are boxes that allow you to scale proportionally by clicking the green button on the bottom right hand corner of any object, or you can distort the scaling by clicking the handles on the left or right of any object.

TIP: it is important to understand that reducing the size of any image by using the scaling tools provided by the application does not reduce the FILE size of the image.  There are tips available in the image section of the tutorial that shows you how you can re- sample images.
